Fantasy footwear

If money was no object, these are what I'd be wearing this summer: wooden-heeled and beaded leather wedges by Stella McCartney. They are actually from 2008, but I could live with that...

Cinderella redux

How's this for a modern take on Cinderella's glass slipper: Perspex heels. The attractions of see-through shoes are transparently obvious (ahem) but then so are the drawbacks. They demand lots of foot-maintenance (or Photoshopping). Above, Perspex and plastic by Via Uno.

Kurt Geiger has had some great see-through heels in the past. The gingham, leather and blue Perspex heels above are from several seasons back. Ditto the red patent ankle-strap sandals below. I love the way the red patent appears to bleed into the clear Perspex. And if you look closely you'll notice they bring a whole new meaning to the term ''spike heels''.

Putty please

I've been searching for ages for the perfect pair of nude/flesh-toned/blush/neutral patent pumps. And I finally found them, at (ta-da!) Dorothy Perkins! Although, given all the recent brouhaha about ''flesh-coloured'' (Michelle Obama in a ''flesh-coloured'' – aka pink – dress by Naeem Khan, and the subsequent cries of, ''Whose flesh? Not hers!'') I think these could be most accurately described as ''putty-coloured''. An excellent match for my feet.

Southall shoe queens

In celebration of the start of the World Cup this afternoon... According to the website visitsouthall.co.uk, 'Southall [in west London] is so famous that the Bollywood film "Goal", starring John Abraham and Bipasha Basu, was shot here.' As was "Bend it like Beckham". No football boots in evidence on the Broadway last weekend, but lots of spangles, beads and sparkly slippers.

Brown studies

A sunny Friday evening in London, gladiators everywhere. Brown suede and studs in Trafalgar Square (above), and brown leather with multiple buckles in Shepherds Bush (below).

Goody two (and three) shoes

It's always fun to see coordinated outfits, whether planned or not. The two girls above, spotted in west London recently, had a nice double-take on grey shoes with black tights. And note how well a directional green nail colour works with peep-toes and hose.

Friends on Portobello Road (I like the cute baby blue pedi matching her sandal straps.)

West London: daughter in white Converse, mum in gold.

East London: gingham and denim – ''But we bought them at completely different places!''

Karen and Iggy have spent so many hours working together that their trainers match.
